After collecting an anomalous energy seen in space, your ship is teleported to strange, unknown deformed places in space, if it even is still your dimension.
Containing this anomalous energy is near-impossible for your ship, which means that the only way to keep it from reaching critical mass is to use it to fuel your own weapons. Sounds helpful to have such an encouragement to fire at will, or at least it would be if it wasn't actively detrimental to your survival: Strange creatures will chase you for the core you've obtained, and some of them will make your attacks useless, and to top it off, use them against you! This is on top of other obstacles in your path that will be anything but helped by your constant need to fire.
